Hey there, I’m Vlad, one of the new Wildbit members, joining as a developer on the Postmark team. I was born in Romania and I’m currently living in Bucharest, along with my lovely fiancee Cristina and our adorable dog Lolita.
I was attracted to computers from a young age, ever since my uncle taught me how to write some simple Pascal code. My path towards software development started with my desire to make my own video games. I made a couple of small personal projects during college, including an OpenGL based 3D multiplayer chess game, but I plan on making more interesting stuff in the future.
Following that path, I studied Computer Science in college and went on to work for a Finnish naval software company called Napa for a few years. I can say that I was very fortunate to have worked for them, as I got so much experience in a wide variety of skills and roles, from developing many cool projects, to being the team’s Scrum Master and even visiting clients in Asia on a couple of occasions. I learned a ton of stuff there while working on a business intelligence platform for monitoring ships and their performance. One particularly interesting project that I worked on was developing a cloud-based “Google Maps for ships” product, telling you the best route for the chosen vessel, taking into account environmental factors such as weather, depth and the ship’s technical specs.
I lived in Finland for one year while working there and got to experience the “never-ending” daylight summertime, but also the long and cold winter nights. We also had a sauna in the apartment that I was sharing. Did you know that there are more saunas than cars in Finland? After that, I moved back to Romania to be together with my fiancee until we figure out where we would like our lives to settle.
I started feeling the need for a new challenge and while passively browsing through job postings, I noticed Wildbit searching for a Postmark developer and it caught my attention. As I was reading through their blog, I really enjoyed their view on work and the family-like culture. The technologies also matched very well with what I was working on, so I decided that I’d give it a shot, and here I am! I’m definitely looking forward to making Postmark an even better product and being part of the Wildbit family.
Outside work, I always try to further improve my coding craft, but I also love reading and watching documentaries about any interesting thing I can find, ranging from how things are made, to how people are living on the other side of the world. For example, recently I got very invested in learning more about ants and how an ant colony works. We also travel quite a bit whenever we get the chance, searching for a place to settle long-term.
I’m very excited to be part of the Wildbit team and you can expect great things from us in the future!
