Head of People Ops

We’re searching for a leader to join our team as our first Head of People Ops. And as the Head of People Ops, you’ll be responsible for designing, operationalizing, and scaling our unique take on business for our team of 30 folks all over the world.

This role will have one direct report, currently focused on Team Happiness and supporting operations. You will work closely with (and report directly to) the CEO while overseeing all aspects of people operations—including employee experience & engagement, performance feedback, learning & development, compensation and benefits, compliance, and talent acquisition. The right candidate will be equally comfortable with strategy and hands-on execution: we’re looking for a big picture thinker who’s not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get things done. And because Wildbit is a remote-first company, experience working in and building distributed teams is important. Joining the company’s leadership team of 8, the Head of People Ops will ensure our people are supported, motivated, and inspired!

About You

You’re a seasoned People Ops professional with at least six years of experience, preferably with a global, remote team. You thrive in an environment of autonomy, orient yourself quickly, and begin executing in earnest. Your strengths include proactive, clear, and effective communication and you actively build relationships with all stakeholders. Acting as a coach and trusted advisor, you are both empathetic and objective, delivering thoughtful feedback and identifying potential. Leveraging all essential procedures and practices—from employment law to compliance—you aim to build a best-in-class People Operations program. Staying abreast of the latest industry updates, you turn information, feedback, and your own observations into a strategic, clear, and achievable plan. You excel at connecting the dots from plan to execution and are able to see both the 30,000ft and 5ft views. The well-being of our team is one of your top priorities. You continually monitor employee sentiment, spot issues before they become problems, and proactively suggest ways to help everyone reach their full potential. You’ll also help us all get better at sharing and receiving feedback across the organization, to ensure everyone is learning and growing in their roles.

Your responsibilities will include:

Promoting and supporting company culture. Help us internalize our core values and how they manifest throughout the company. Coach new hires and tenured employees alike on ways to support diversity, equity, and inclusion. Design programs and contribute to efforts to showcase our unique culture, both inside and outside of Wildbit. This might include things like launching employee recognition programs; writing content for our website; or contributing to press or social media promotion around Wildbit.

Managing career development opportunities. We are extremely proud that our average tenure highly exceeds the status quo. We attribute some of this longevity to our business building and running multiple web-based products. With multiple product lines, our team is open to career moves that allow them to stay and grow in a company they’ve come to love. But we want to make sure that while our team members are at Wildbit, they continue to grow themselves and create more opportunities for growth in their careers, whether that’s at Wildbit, or somewhere else eventually. We believe that people shouldn’t be placed in boxes, but instead should be supported as full humans who are capable of things outside of their current “job”. With your peers on the leadership team, you will design clear growth paths, and support individual employees in their career progression.

Overseeing performance reviews. Design and standardize a team-wide process around performance feedback. Help new and experienced managers level up their skills, and coach them on ways to identify and communicate opportunities for performance improvement. Assist with employment separation cases as needed: ensure the process is fair, balanced, and clear to both managers and employees.

Managing compliance and benefits programs. This includes identifying and adhering to any regulations — state, federal, and international — for our distributed team. You’ll also have the opportunity to expand and adjust our benefits programs, and will be responsible for rolling out any changes or improvements across the company.

Enabling effective hiring & overseeing onboarding. Work with hiring managers to support the hiring process from start to finish: map new positions, set salary ranges, craft job descriptions, recruit appropriate candidates, interview applicants, and prepare offers. While we have a strong onboarding process in place that ensures new hires are equipped with the tools, information, and support they need to thrive at Wildbit, we would look to you to suggest and implement features that would further enhance this experience for new team members. Our hiring is slow and methodical, happening periodically throughout the year.

Implementing team-wide standards for people ops reporting. We’re not interested in setting up a bunch of metrics for the sake of having numbers to report. But we will look to you to help us set up reporting that enables us to monitor People Operations; understand what’s working well; and make adjustments to things that could be improved. This could include quantitative measures like employee retention as well as more qualitative approaches like employee interviews or wellness surveys.

If you view People Ops as an HR service function; come to the table with a tactical playbook; or consider busy synonymous with productive, then this isn’t the role for you.
