Project Alpha, our Subversion management application for team leads, now has an official name: Beanstalk. Along with the name, we have launched a beta landing page with a short description, the new logo, and a sign up form if anyone is interested in the public beta once it is released.

What’s the idea behind the name? I know what it means, but I don’t understand how it correlates with the functionality.

Most of my ideas revolved around growth. Something similar to a growing source trunk/branches. Beanstalk is from a popular children’s story called “Jack and the Beanstalk” about a beanstalk that grew into the sky overnight. I thought the idea and the name was a good fit to explain the growth of code over time (and the fact that our system helps you manage that).
