A nice tool for adding items to a shopping cart has been created by a company in Portland called Panic. The idea is interesting and makes a lot of sense. You can click on an item you want to buy and drag it into the cart window. It inserts the item and calculates the total.
I think it is a great step and something to learn from. I would be interested to know how useful it actually is to users.
Have a look: http://www.panic.com/goods/

We can use this idea in e-commerce applications. Its simple builds in JavaScript.

Hey,
it would have been useful if somehow i got to know the individual prices of the items added to the shopping cart. If possible, on mouse over on each item i could view its price. This is so that if the total is exceeding my budget i could remove an appropriately priced item.

The Panic cart is one of the cleanest and most engaging executions of drag/drop ecommerce that I’ve seen. For those who want to follow Panic’s progress, they’re considering marketing the app. You can contact them to be included on their email updates list.
